Hello peeps,
How are we doing, As our gardens begin to grow and bloom as the season progresses?
As you can see in the video above, the first of my roses have opened up. This one being the gorgeous ‘Desdemona’ from David Austin. The gorgeousness of the Geums and aquilegia have also come to life.
I think this may be a great year for the roses, the others are covered in buds ready to pop! Even my three new ones are ready with buds and I’m so excited for them. The first one I got is ‘Anne Boleyn’ I am absolutely obsessed with this incredible lady, what a warrior she was in history and how she held her own hand right to the end. My second new one is ‘Cariad’, I say new one, however this one was my very first David Austin rose my husband got me around 16 years ago. I left it in my old house, and I never came across it for sale again until now. The third one is ‘Emily Bronte’ known as the author of ‘Wuthering Heights’ and her poetry from the Brontë sisters. I usually will pick a rose that has a personal interest to me.
Well i have to say I still continue with the theme of me being quite poorly overall so far this year. Although I’m not managing to do much in the garden, I’ve actually sowed more seeds than I thought I could. They are coming along nicely, I even potted on quite a few. We’ve had some really lovely weather these pasts few weeks so just being able to sit and absorb the atmosphere of the garden has been an amazing tonic.
As I sit here today, outside has changed, the winds have increased, so the flowers that were out have been bashed about and blown away, A bit how I’m feeling this week. I have lots going around in my brain, ideas of what I want to accomplish next. I did manage to get out the other day just for a few moments, I cleared away some of the wilted and brown stems of spring flowers, although some remain vibrant green, and still flowering. These I’ll leave for a while longer to get as much energy as possible to ensure that next year’s flowers will bloom well. I usually deadhead the spring flowers then leave the foliage for around six weeks once they’ve finished blooming.
On this coming Monday I am due to have some injections into my scalp for pain management. I have everything crossed that these work, just one part of my chronic illnesses I can get some relief from. Then hopefully the winds will drop again soon and I can grab some time outside potting on some of the plants I’ve grown. My garden is my ongoing therapy and medicine and will forever remain so.
So for now from me happy gardening until next time I check in.
Keep smiling 😊
